Abstract

Mathematics learning has deteriorated over the last twenty-five years, according to standardized assessments. Given this, we propose moving from the concrete toward abstraction. The underlying thinking of Kichwa oral counting and Taptana is used to understand positional number systems. Counting is presented as the source from which mathematical operations are derived.
