Formulación de un revestimiento protector para maderas a base de aceites vegetales reciclados y sílice obtenida de cascarilla de arroz

Abstract

The work proposes a protective coating for wood using waste materials with a high environmental impact in Ecuador. Used Vegetable Oil (UVO) is employed as the binder phase, and rice husk silica (SiO₂) is used as the reinforcing filler. Currently, the wood industry uses varnishes and paints containing petrochemical solvents, which generate emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and non-biodegradable waste. The project includes the filtration of UVO and the characterization of the silica in order to analyze its dispersion within the recycled oil. Different reinforcement proportions will be evaluated in comparison with conventional varnishes, considering hardness, water resistance, and adhesion.
