Abstract

The present work describes the various factors that affect the choice of a professional career by students in the third year of high school at the Intercultural Bilingual Educational Unit Quilloac. Where there are intrinsic and extrinsic factors, affecting their professional choice, which in many cases represents a difficulty, especially when they do not have a clear orientation to make a proper decision. This study is important because it contributes to psychology by allowing us to understand the decision-making process from an integral perspective by analyzing how personal interests, the influences of the social and family environment and the economy can impact the academic and professional development of students. According to the findings obtained in this research, it can be concluded that there is not only one determining factor, but that these vary significantly according to the characteristics, interests and individual contexts of each student.
