Propuesta para el diseño de un plan de mantenimiento productivo total para el área de quirófanos de un Hospital en Quito Central

Abstract

This thesis proposes the design of a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) plan for the operating room area of a hospital in Central Quito, with the objective of improving the operational availability of medical equipment and reducing interruptions in surgical services. The study begins with an analysis of the current operating room situation during the year 2024, considering information on corrective maintenance, the number of surgeries performed and suspended, and general failure records. The methodology used was non-experimental and cross-sectional, based on the collection and analysis of real data, without manipulating variables. Technical indicators such as mean time to repair (MTTR), mean time between failures (MTBF), and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) were calculated, with an emphasis on availability. As part of the proposal, the progressive implementation of the pillars of TPM is proposed, focusing especially on autonomous maintenance, planned maintenance, and staff education/training, as well as the development of checklist forms and the development of continuous improvement activities. A maintenance plan manual was developed with detailed specifications and formats on how to execute each matrix. It is concluded that applying the TPM approach in operating rooms is feasible and can generate significant benefits for hospital management, provided there is institutional commitment and adequate technical follow-up.
