Evaluación técnica de la línea férrea del tramo Aloasí - Boliche, con la finalidad de la apertura de una ruta turística en beneficio del Cantón Mejía

Abstract

The project “TECHNICAL EVALUATION OF THE RAILWAY LINE OF THE “ALOASÍ-BOLICHE” SECTION, WITH THE PURPOSE OF THE OPENING OF A TOURIST ROUTE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE MEJÍA CANTON” seeks to revitalize a historic section of the Trans-Andean Railway in Ecuador, recognized as Cultural Heritage in 2008 The main objective is to evaluate and improve this railway section to promote tourism and revitalize the local economy of the canton. To meet the objective, a detailed analysis of the elements of the railway superstructure was carried out, including rails, sleepers and ballast. Visual inspection and topographic survey methods were used to evaluate the current condition of the road. The results indicated that, although the rails are in good condition, many sleepers need replacement and the amount of ballast is insufficient in several sections. Additionally, deficiencies in fixings were identified that must be addressed to ensure the safety and stability of the infrastructure. In addition, the majority of the railway lacks signage, which means that it is unsafe. The geometric analysis revealed that the horizontal and vertical alignment of the track meets the specifications of the AREMA regulations, ensuring an optimal design for the safe operation of tourist trains. The project's conclusions emphasize the importance of modernizing signaling and communication systems, as well as carrying out regular maintenance of the superstructure. The rehabilitation of the section will not only improve railway infrastructure, but will also promote tourism, economically benefiting the local community and creating new employment opportunities.

In summary, the project proposes a series of technical and maintenance improvements that, aligned with international regulations, will ensure safety and functionality.
