Buenas prácticas en el periodismo de investigación en Ecuador

Abstract

The aim of this research is to recognize effective approaches in investigative journalism in Ecuador. At the theoretical level, we worked with the Interpretative Paradigm focused on social and human reality. At the methodological level, a blended approach incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methods was utilized. In the qualitative approach, 12 award-winning journalistic products were identified, 5 of the Jorge Mantilla Ortega awards and 7 of the Eugenio Espejo awards, both carried out in 2022. Direct information on good practices in investigative journalism in Ecuador, applied to the different genres and formatsrecognized, was obtained from interviews with award-winning journalists. In the quantitative approach, 230 online surveys were conducted, showing strong support for quality and ethics in journalism. Participants emphasized the need for rigorous fact-checking, transparency, diversity of sources, protection of privacy and continuous training, considering these practices essential to ensure credibility and quality in the field of investigative journalism. The results of the research revealed excellence in investigative journalism in Ecuador, evidenced by award-winning work that addressed corrupt practices. Interviews highlighted challenges such as the search for truth and the threat of fake news. The surveys underscored the importance of verification, transparency, ethics and diversity in journalism, with awards valued for their positive impact on society.
