Abstract: | The phytopathogen Mycosphaerella fijiensis affects its foliar system, hindering the development and yield of the crop. This interference disrupts crucial biological processes such as photosynthesis, flowering, and optimal vegetative growth, forming bunches with weights considerably lower than commercial standards. This detrimental effect has significant economic implications for banana producers. Therefore, evaluating the antifungal activity of the ethanolic extract of Heliotropium indicum (scorpion tail) emerges as a possible solution to control the spread of the phytopathogen in banana plantations. This study aims to determine if the ethanolic extract of the scorpion tail has antifungal properties capable of inhibiting or reducing the action of the phytopathogen, aiming to improve the health and productivity of banana crops. This research is essential in developing practical and sustainable disease management strategies, thus contributing to regional food and economic security. The leaves, branches, and stem extracts demonstrated biological activity on Mycosphaerella fijiensis. This indicates that Heliotropium indicum could have the ability to reduce the presence and spread of phytopathogen in plants, improving photosynthetic capacity, vegetative development, and the yield of the banana crop. |
