Tratamiento periodístico sobre abuso sexual infantil. Estudio de caso niños víctimas de pederastia en Canoa, Manabí

Abstract

This thesis exploresthe journalistic coverage of child sexual abuse, with a particular focus on cases involving children who are victims of pedophilia in Canoa, Manabí. The research centered on a detailed analysis of journalistic reports prepared by the digital media platforms, 'Land of No One' and 'Primicias'. The fundamental goal was to comprehend how these media outletsstructured each news article to report on the incidents. The research was undertaken from various conceptual standpoints to provide a more profound understanding. A literature review encompassing journalistic treatment, digital journalism, the structure of a news article, content analysis, and child sexual abuse was conducted to comprehend the subject matter more effectively. This study adopted a mixed research methodology, aiming to address both qualitative and quantitative aspects of each news article'sstructure. Acomparative methodology was employed to distinguish the differences between the news articles of the two analyzed media platforms. Additionally, a content analysis of the written language utilized in each news article was conducted as a tool. Subsequently, various matrices were designed to facilitate understanding of both qualitative and quantitative aspects, as previously mentioned. The investigation concluded that the digital media 'Land of No One' only published one news article in the year 2022, without continuing the coverage of the victims of pedophilia in Canoa, Manabí. Contrastingly, 'Primicias'published a total of 6 news articles between the years 2022 and 2023, addressing various situations that transpired throughout the case. A crucial point worth mentioning is the commitment displayed by both media platforms in preserving the safety and integrity of the child victims when broadcasting the news. This reflects the media's commitment to handling the information ethically and cautiously.
