Abstract

ABSTRACT: (INGLÉS) The present research work through the realization of the Video report focuses on identifying the imaginaries that were built around the case of Diana Carolina's femicide that arose in Ibarra, Imbabura province, on January 19, 2019. This investigation starts with an analysis of the informational treatment that was given to the news through the social network Facebook and the media about the murder of Diana Carolina and shows that non-contextualized and discriminatory information can originate negative practices that caused a great impact on society. Another important point of this project is the observation of the behaviors that occurred as a result of the femicide of Diana Carolina, for example, the xenophobic practices in rejection of the murderer who is of Venezuelan origin. This fact, for specialists, arises as a result of the construction of imaginaries about Venezuelan migrants due to the beliefs and social practices that have been formed in society and pigeonhole them with negative concepts. Social imaginaries have naturalized violence against women, Diana Carolina was murdered on the public highway by her partner, however, the news tone focused on the Venezuelan nationality of the aggressor. The product also shows a vox populi where the interviewees agreed that women have gained ground in the social, economic and political spheres, however, it is necessary to work from education to change the conception of the patriarchal system that still persists in Ecuador and Latin America.
