Abstract

The aim of this research Project is to analyse the influence of school textbooks on schools. Since these books are considered to be a support resource for the teachers, the teachers use their textbooks to help in their, professional role of teaching and learning with their students. Over the years there has been a major increase in the number of textbooks available. Different publishers have produced a long list of textbooks, where each offers different subject matters to develop the skills as laid out by the National Curriculum of Education. It can be shown that textbooks continue to be the teaching device or means that dominate the curriculum development in primary and secondary schools and even at infant school level. The analysis of this topic, namely, the role of textbooks in teaching Language and Literature was conducted in the Primary school of Calasancio Victoria Valverde, where it can be shown that the teachers are totally governed by the textbooks, complying with each direction as it is written in the textbook. Their concern is to apply all the skills and practices, as set out in the textbook. There is, however, a problem here. Education is being transformed through the innovation and creativity of each teacher and his students with the help of Tics, generating and developing in the student a critical, free and innovative knowledge, however, following a pattern, as set out in a textbook , we are homogenizing and universalizing ideas and knowledge , forgetting the circumstances and surroundings of each student
