Abstract

This investigation is interested in the rescue of the historical memory of the Yumbo people through the celebration of the popular party Yumbada of Cotocollao. The cultural manifestations of the Yumbo people had lost their strength within the Ecuadorian culture at the end of the 19th century. More than two decades ago it is possible to recover this festival through the testimonies of its organizers and participants who have managed to bring to the present the history of the Yumbos, they create meanings through their experiences, making their traditions known through their ancestry and cultural richness of this town, rescuing the memory of their ancestors. The audiovisual product demonstrates the cosmovision, the culture and the rituals that are given before, during and after the celebration of this party, thus showing the reality of the Yumbo people, portraying through moving images linked to the sound, the culture of this town. The video allows us to obtain a greater scope that can share knowledge with the new generations with the objective of maintaining this ancestral festival as an important event within the Ecuadorian culture. To rescue each one of the traditions of this town and make known the process that the Yumbada entails.
