Abstract

This presentation is about the Autism Spectrum Syndrome (ASS). As a result of this information, we know that Asperger is derived from Autism, which affects several areas of the cognitive aspect. Some of the behaviors that a person can present as a result of this condition are: isolation from the people around them, lack of visual contact, not to answer when they are called by their names, no social smiles, slowness when learning the language among others. To be able to diagnose this syndrome, the specialists start by evaluation if the patient has problems with his social interaction, they also observe if the patient has repetitive patterns or if he gets interested in the things he likes a lot. The general objective is to determine in which way the audiovisual narrative is built up in relation to the Asperger Syndrome. To do more extensive research, the specialists got testimonies from youngsters with Autism, which let them obtain many different points of view and answers about a similar situation. Many of them identify themselves with the character of the movie Forrest Gump. This story was known by means of the podcast “Sky is the Limit” (a three-program series) and the opinion of the interviewed people was known in relation to how they feel when discrimination is applied against them because of the different ways they see, learn and understand the world. In the podcast, they explained that they would not like to be treated with insulting words, which makes them feel rejected and judged without knowing the real abilities and capacities they have. The general society has to really learn how to interpret these people behavior and they have also to learn how to treat them with the further objective of not to influence negatively in their self-esteem and therefore, encouraging the isolation from the society.
