Análisis narrativo visual de la fotografía documental en Quito desde 1875 a 1925

Abstract

Communicability has made way for a visual narrative analysis, highlighting the importance of documentary photography in Quito from 1875 to 1925, reflecting on the theoretical references of visual language to understand the production of meanings in a historical context, in which it has been determined a qualitative approach from symbolic interactionism to give photography a communicational axis. Through interviews and a matrix where the communicational senses are denoted and connoted, the historical memory of Quito and the components found within the image are shown, allowing to communicate a message that is composed of a semiotic statute made up of signs that allow to the sender to build a message, communicating memories that allows knowing, discovering and analyzing. The photographs collected were carefully chosen, collecting important events over time in the social, cultural, political aspects in Quito, a record that has an important value in memory and a communication sense that encompasses a set of resources and techniques to give meaning to the image, allowing oblivion not to be an option. Memory keeps history alive, photography being a fundamental tool that allows recording, understanding and analyzing, by means of elements that make it possible to transmit a message to the receiver, being a visual testimony of the customs of an era, showing different events, that make up what Quito is today and the new generations understand the importance of knowing, describing and removing in the past.
