El rol de tiktok como un medio digital de ciberactivismo anti-racial: estudio de caso George Floyd.

Abstract

After the publication of a video on Facebook, which showed an African-American man being subdued by a police officer until he died, a wave of protests demanding justice began; citizens and protesting collectives appropriated the phrase Black Lives Matters "Black Lives Matter". A term that was originally a hashtag, which represents the fight against racism. The events following the death of George Floyd immediately crossed borders, giving social networks a cyber-activist function. Considering that this event occurred in the midst of a pandemic context, the case took importance in the United States, so that large demonstrations were recorded that exceeded such health parameters, forcing the government of the day to take measures that polarized both local and global opinions. Thus, social networks, being a digital media that promotes interaction between people virtually, captures different points of view in this case related to George Floyd, which results in the generation of meanings from the struggle for a single cause, the eradication of racial violence. That is why, the present research from symbolic interactionism, analyzes the case of George Floyd in order to identify the role of TikTok as a digital media. Where online users, from their perception, emit their point of view in this social network format that is different from other already known networks.
