Evaluación del desgaste y propuesta de mantenimiento de la carpeta de rodadura de la Av. Luiz Alcívar, Mapasingue, Guayaquil

Abstract

Road infrastructure constitutes one of the fundamental pillars for the orderly development of cities and the well-being of society. Each pathway represents years of planning, investment and continued service to the community; However, the passage of time, increased traffic and the absence of adequate technical maintenance cause progressive deterioration that compromises its functionality and safety. Under this premise, the present investigation was aimed at evaluating the surface condition of the rigid pavement of Luis Alcívar Elizalde Avenue, through the application of the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method, as a technical tool that allows objectively understanding the reality of the road infrastructure. The study was developed based on systematic visual inspections, a detailed survey of existing failures and their classification according to type and severity, identifying pathologies such as cracks, peeling of joints, punching and deterioration of slabs. These manifestations reflect not only the natural wear and tear of the structure, but also the constant pressure of heavy traffic and the lack of planned interventions over time. The calculation of the PCI index allowed establishing a clear diagnosis of the condition of the pavement, evidencing a level of deterioration that requires timely technical actions. Based on the results obtained, recommendations are made aimed at applying maintenance with the real condition of the road. This work not only provides a technical analysis of the pavement, but also reaffirms the civil engineer's commitment to the preservation of road infrastructure, understood as an essential service that directly affects the mobility, safety and quality of life of the population.
