Abstract

The objective of this research is to evaluate the management of rural drinking water boards in the Cuenca canton using sustainability indicators. To this end, the need for equitable and safe access to drinking water was identified, examining the challenges in rural areas. Highlighting that water boards play a key role in community water resource management, this research adopts a mixed approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collected through surveys, interviews, and direct observations. It emphasizes the need to establish a sustainability index for water boards, considering key dimensions that reflect the current and real context of the boards, thus guaranteeing the human right to water and promoting equitable and sustainable local development.
