Grupo FEMEN: sextremismo como práctica artivista y comunicacional del cuerpo como instrumento político

Abstract

The present work consists of a visual discourse analysis that shows the impact of the sextremist tactics, consists of the use of the body as a political instrument. Part of a constant struggle in the defense of the idea of liberation and the conception of the body as a space of expression. For this the sextremism act realized by the international group FEMEN titled Erdogan: Comedor of the human rights is taken as reference. In the execution of this article, the theoretical approach is related to art, activism, body-power and feminism. The use of the body as a political instrument has a historical transcendence, it is a practice that invites feminist empowerment but the FEMEN group appropriates it and names it as sextremism. This is another tactic, the artivists have their evolution, takes strength and transfers in the physical public space, the same that is projected in cyberspace, with different formats. In the case of the study, the photographs that show how a performance is carried out as a strategy or disruptive input and the body-banner as a tactic are analyzed; Both of political artivist action. With this research it is determined that the sextremism functions as an appropriation element according to the sociocultural context in which it is applied.
