Construcción de una viga benkelman para la evaluación estructural de pavimentos flexibles, usada en el Laboratorio de Pavimentos de la Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Sede Quito, Campus Sur

Abstract

Carrying out civil engineering laboratory practices and tests at universities is necessary so that students can apply the acquired knowledge in class and in turn develop skills that will be useful to them in the workplace. The objective of this project is the construction of a Benkelman beam for the structural evaluation of flexible pavements which will be used in the pavement laboratories of the Salesiana Polytechnic University, Quito headquarters, south campus. For the construction of this beam, a design was made based on an existing beam from the laboratories of the Ministry of Public Works. Measurements of the existing beam were taken and its characteristics were observed, such as what material it was made of and what elements it had. The plans were made in AutoCAD and the necessary materials were acquired to construct the new Benkelman beam. It was verified that both beams have the same measurements and characteristics and the test was carried out using the INV E - 795 - 13 standard with both equipment with the objective of performing a statistical analysis between the results of both beams where it was concluded that the difference between the results of both teams is minimal, therefore, it can be concluded that the beam built for the University laboratories works correctly. At the same time, with the results obtained from the testing of both beams, the characteristic deflection of the two sections of the track was calculated and similar results were obtained with the data of both beams, which corroborates the correct operation of the equipment.
