Transformación de las iglesias de Quito de lo religioso a lo turístico. Estudio de caso: Centro Histórico

Abstract

The research was carried out to show the current symbolic significance of the baroque art churches in the Historic Center of Quito as religious and tourist centers. A communicative product is made based on the idea of exposing 5 churches in the colonial district of the capital: Catedral Metropolitana de Quito, El Sagrario La Compañía, San Francisco, Santo Domingo. In which, through a collection of interviews of history experts, guides and administrators, it is possible to provide the current meaning of heritage temples. To develop the present study, the research was carried out by structuring the churches that can contribute to the development of symbolic meaning. In addition, the collection of heritage books compiling the heritage history in general and specific to study churches. In the approximation, the schematization of data was carried out, in which, through the qualitative method, allows the application of investigative tools such as interviews. This contributes both to research, and to the development of the communicative product by giving various approaches and points of view in the face of the same problematic, the search for the current meaning of churches around tourism versus the religious. In mentioning the Historic Center of Quito, the baroque is mentioned and in turn the architecture of the most important symbol of the colonial center, the religiosity reflected in the churches. This entails the idea of how the center of the capital was built, from a common location, the large square in which the four powers of the state expand and the city flourishes.
