Estimación de la posible cantidad de CO2 a emitirse en tres zonas susceptibles a incendios forestales dentro del Distrito Metropolitano de Quito

Abstract

This research work was carried out in order to estimate the amount of possible CO2 that would be emitted in three areas vulnerable to forest fires in the Distrito Metropolitano de Quito. For this, the delimitation of an area of approximately 5 ha in three metropolitan parks of Quito, P.M. Chilibulo, P.M. del Sur de Quito, and P.M. Guangüiltagua was covered. The stratification of the areas was carried out by sampling in plots of 250 m2 divided into quadrants and distributed evenly. These plots were necessary for the collection of variables such as the circumference to the height of the chest and height of the significant tree species, data that allowed to estimate the biomass available for combustion present in each of the sampling areas resulting in values 173,971 ton in the P.M. Chilibulo, 89,274 ton in the P.M. of the Sur de Quito, 194,999 ton in the P.M. Guangüiltagua. Within the plots, two subplots of 1m2 were established for the collection of leaf litter samples, for the fuel loading of the same in the sampled areas from where values of 10,565 ton/ha were obtained in the P.M. Chilibulo, 13,238 ton/ha in the P.M. del Sur de Quito and 11,203 ton/ha in the P.M. Guangüiltagua low results for the valuation bibliography however the accumulation of fuel load added Human activity that is the main reason for wildfires in the DMQ could pose a risk to metropolitan parks. To determine the amount of CO2, the methodology proposed by the IPCC was used, from which emission results of 122,637 ton/ha were obtained for the P.M Chilibulo, 63,032 ton/ha in the P.M. del Sur de Quito, and 137,679 ton/ha in the P.M. Guangüiltagua.
