Estereotipos de género en el ejercicio docente en cuarto año de educación general básica en una institución educativa de la ciudad de Quito

Abstract

The degree work is a case study that analyzes the reproduction of gender stereotypes in the teaching practice in the fourth year of general basic education in an educational center in the city of Quito. The problem in this research is the distinctive treatment of boys and girls marked by stereotyped attitudes and teaching practices that reproduce differentiated roles among students in the teaching and learning process. The qualitative methodology allowed the collection of data through the recording of data in field diaries and observation sheets; an interview was also conducted to know the teacher's point of view on the subject. During the research, events in the teaching exercise were evidenced where sexist and discriminatory language towards both genders was used on different occasions. Likewise, stereotyped attitudes and thoughts of boys and girls were manifested while interacting with their peers. It was determined that the reproduction of gender stereotypes in teaching is the result of a patriarchal society marked by the differentiation between women and men, in which teaching goes beyond the work in the classroom and creates transcendental and significant mental constructs in the formation of students.
