Abstract

This research work seeks to make a journey through the historical and social memory that is built in the inhabitants of the Mocha canton around their patron San Juan Bautista, from the compilation of information on the residents of the canton and devotees of the patron saint with the aim of looking for social practices, communicative elements and cultural factors that influence the configuration of social memory. To understand the communicative and cultural value of the symbolic elements, we will collect first-hand information through bibliographic research and interviews with the characters that are part of the community, such as the parish priest of the canton, who will provide a theological perspective of the connection of the inhabitants with the employer; on the other hand, the mayor of the canton knows the social, cultural and historical importance of the devotion to San Juan Bautista. In addition, we have the voice of the faithful who year after year organize themselves into a permanent committee for the celebration of the festivities in honor of the birthday of Saint John the Baptist that takes place on June 24, this festival has been celebrated since the foundation of the town of Mocha 478 years ago. The testimonies that are collected will serve to give context to the images that will be part of the digital magazine, since they must reflect the sense of belonging that the Mocha population has with their patron saint.
