Estereotipos de género en las ilustraciones del texto escolar de 5to EGB de estudios sociales del Ministerio de Educación.

Abstract

The research work about the gender stereotypes present in the illustrations of the 5th EGB school textbook of social studies of the Ministry of Education, was carried out with the purpose of analyzing the characteristics and gender roles, which are visualized in the iconography of the books; They are presented as a set of ideas that attribute particularities presenting a model of man and woman, the transmission of the characteristics can be evidenced in the school text, which is considered as a didactic resource for learning. The work is organized through the theoretical foundation of the categories gender stereotypes, school textbooks and illustrations. The research had a mixed approach, it was carried out under two techniques, the first was a content analysis and the second the documentary analysis, as systematization instruments the observation and analysis sheets were used. The results obtained were that the illustrations present male gender stereotypes in a large percentage and are represented by physical characteristics, in which the man appears as strong; in the same way, in the way of exercising their roles, they are illustrated doing jobs that require greater strength and are relevant. The feminine gender presents characteristics of weakness, dependence and not being dominant in front of the man; Its role is established with activities related to the home and textile production by its manuals.
